Can I remove my Dreadlocks?

Temporary dreadlock extensions are braided in and can easily be taken out even by the person wearing them. But what about “real” dreads? Yes! Even dreadlocks made from your own hair or can safely be brushed out. Without scissors. It is definitely recommended to have this done by a professional that has experience with this.

How do I take Temporary Dreadlock extensions out?

Here is an easy to follow guide!

Use a seam ripper or scissors to cut the elastics. Then just unbraid dread by dread. Comb out your loose hair while it is dry. Do this strand by strand from the bottom to the top of the strand. Or if you prefer wet, wetten the hair, shampoo it, rinse it well with water, put in some conditioner and brush the hair, starting at the ends (strand by strand). Do this carefully because hair is the most fragile when wet!

  • for temporary dreadlock extensions the typical maximum wearing time is 6-8 weeks.
  • don’t be in a hurry to take them out, it takes time!

And don't forget, we loose around 100 hairs a day, which will be trapped in the braided / locked part and will come out while combing the hair out. This is not damaged, but normal shedded hair.
