Can I wash my Dreadlocks?

A lot of people when they first get dreadlocks start with the question; “Can I wash my dreads?” In short: YES. You can wash your dreads! If you were hoping to hear “Noooo, you’re finally free of the unreasonably insane hassle of shampooing every other day” then don’t worry, you only have to wash them 1-2 times a week or LESS to personal preference!

The most important thing to keep in mind when washing your dreadlocks, is making sure they are fully dry before you go to sleep. Sleeping with wet hair or dreads can cause irritation on the scalp and even fungal growth. Luckily by making sure it is fully dry prevents this! You can either do this by using a microfiber towel and air drying thoroughly, or by using a blowdryer on low heat.

However! Be careful blowdrying synthetic dreads. When they get too hot they could start to melt. It is also good to note to be mindful blowdrying wool dreadlocks, since they could definitely shrink from the heat.
